Our new ambassador

Hedvig Hjertaker

We are proud to announce that Hedvig Hjertaker from Bergen will be part of our ambassador team!

At the age of 28, Hedvig Hjertaker became the world's youngest female South Pole explorer. For 49 days, she walked alone in minus 50 degrees Celsius with a 104 kilo sled. She dreams big, sets goals, and achieves them. Her dedication and strength perfectly match our values. In addition, she is a self-proclaimed "wool nerd", and we are thrilled to have her on the team.

For the past ten years, Hedvig has had a great interest in outdoor adventures that challenge her willpower, patience and independence. She grew up in the center of Bergen, a coastal city between seven mountains in Norway. She spent her entire childhood in swimming pools and has won countless national swimming championships. In her everyday life, Hedvig works as a special dental hygienist for people with dental phobia, which helps her overcome her own fears.

After a tough bout with mononucleosis at the age of 19, and later losing her mother to cancer, Hedvig has learned to seize the time and opportunities while she can. Her father always says "life is only as fun as we make it". She is the modern adventurer. She has previously crossed Greenland, Hardangervidda, Finnmarksvidda and Jotunheimen, and climbed South America's highest mountain, Aconcagua.

Hedvig is committed to making her life as fun and adventurous as possible, whether it's walking across Spain, climbing Aconcagua or walking alone to the South Pole. It all starts with putting one foot in front of the other.

Hiking tips from Hedvig

Hedvig gives you her best tips for a better trip.

1: The layering principle

Bring clothes that you can put on or take off as needed, such as a moisture-wicking inner layer (wool), a midlayer such as a fleece or wool sweater, and a shell that protects against water, weather, and wind.
Wool: Wool is a fantastic material for hiking. It keeps you warm even when wet, dries quickly, and smells less than synthetic fabrics after several days of use. Wool underwear, socks, and midlayers are especially important. Janus is good at producing high-quality wool products that are both warm and comfortable. See my wool favorites further down the page.

2: Good hiking shoes

Make sure your footwear is comfortable and provides good support where you need it. The most important thing is that the shoes are broken in before a longer trip. On longer hikes, your feet can often swell a bit, so it may be a good idea to choose a larger shoe size than you usually do.

3: Food and Drink

Water: Always bring enough water for the hike, and check the map for any water sources along the way.
Food: Energy-rich foods such as nuts, energy bars, fruit and pre-packaged food are ideal. Bring enough to cover your needs during the hike. Remember to eat regularly and preferably before you are hungry to avoid getting hungry.

4: Survival Equipment

Necessary Equipment: A whistle, wind bag and multi-tool can be vital in emergency situations.
Flashlight or headlamp: Remember extra batteries. Knife or multi-tool: Always useful to have.
Extra charging sources: Power bank to charge your phone or other electronic equipment.
